The position offers competitive packages depending on your qualifications and experience level within the SACSSP framework:
- Grade 1: R 496,668 – R 583,833 per annum
- Grade 2: R 608,859 – R 929,706 per annum

Requirements & Qualifications
To be considered for this supervisory role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
1. Educational Qualification & Registration
- An appropriate qualification in Social Work that allows for professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) as a Social Worker.
- Must hold current, valid registration with the SACSSP.
2. Experience
- A minimum of 7 years of appropriate experience as a registered Social Worker after registration with the SACSSP.
3. Key Competencies (Knowledge & Skills)
- Legislative Knowledge: Sound understanding of relevant legislation, including the Mental Health Care Act, Children’s Act, and Domestic Violence Act.
- Clinical & Social Work Expertise: Hospital-based social work services and integrated health and social development delivery.
- Leadership & Management: Proven supervisory skills, leadership, and people management abilities.
- Governance & Compliance: Ability to manage statutory processes, governance, reporting, and statutory compliance.
- Core Soft Skills: Excellent communication, report writing, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Computer Literacy: MS Office, data entry, and Information Management Systems.
Key Duties & Responsibilities (Outputs)
As the Social Work Supervisor, you will lead and oversee the delivery of social service interventions at Khayelitsha District Hospital. Key responsibilities include:
- Operational & Clinical Leadership: Provide operational and professional leadership in managing Social Work services across all inpatient, outpatient, and specialized service areas (including the Acute Psychiatric Unit).
- Supervision: Provide clinical and administrative supervision to social workers and student social workers in accordance with SACSSP, DSD, and WCDOH prescripts.
- Multidisciplinary Patient Care: Coordinate social work input into patient care, discharge planning, and referral pathways to promote continuity of care and minimize avoidable delays.
- Governance & Quality Assurance: Ensure compliance with statutory regulations, policies, protocols, and ethical oversight.
- Administration & Auditing: Manage service statistics, compile monthly/annual reports, participate in audits, and execute quality improvement initiatives.
- Staff Development: Facilitate in-service training, capacity building, and professional development for staff and student social workers.
