Position Purpose
The incumbent is responsible for the maintenance, installation, repair and problem solving of Radio Telecommunications equipment used by Transnet. These include microwave, trunked and open channel radio network equipment, base station-, mobile- and handheld- radio peripherals, telemeters and marine radio- and navigational- equipment (coastal locations dependant). The incumbent will lead the Radio Telecommunications team to achieve the above. The area of responsibility will mainly be, but not limited to, his/her geographical area
Position Outputs
OUTPUTS 1.Conduct scheduled routine preventative maintenance as per MICA on Radio network and peripheral equipment as well as on Radio transmission media to keep the above-mentioned equipment and networks fully functional within service and operational specifications 2.Responsible for the new installations and the commissioning of the new equipment as well as the programming thereof. 3.Conduct corrective maintenance on Radio telecommunication and associated equipment, test, repair and replace identified faulty items and re-commission equipment to restore systems to original functional condition. 4.Give regular feedback on progress / clearance of faults to Technical Command Centre (TCC), customer and maintenance controller with relevant information to update logged fault notification and time recording. 5.Supervise staff and conduct regular progress meetings to ensure timeous and effective preventative and corrective maintenance is performed.
6. Complete reports, i.e. MICA (manual for infra condition assessment), maintenance, technical, vehicle, overtime, fault and open notification, to monitor, control and complete administration processes of above tasks. 7. Implement Transnet Risk Management program on a daily basis through level one meetings, green areas, safety talks and WSWP (written safe work procedures) task observations so that all employees comply to Transnet’s Safety policies and procedures. 8. Communicate regularly to the Technical Manager or TCC to customers to give feedback on progress regarding outstanding faults and installations as per customer’s expectations/needs 9. Co-ordinate attendance of planned training for sub-ordinates, students and new appointees, peers as per agreed Individual Development Plans.
10. Regularly undergo training to stay competent in new technologies and equipment deployed in the Radio Telecommunications network and to self-study where required to acquire recent knowledge and skills 11. Maintain site files to include current records/information of equipment on each site
Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications & Experience: ▪T3/S4/ National diploma (Electrical Light Current) 22/2/2 dated 28 December 1990; ▪Registered as an Engineering Technician with ECSA. ▪Five years’ experience in Telecommunication Radio. ▪Be in possession of a valid (Code EB) driver’s licence. ▪C-Green certificate ▪First Aid (level 2). ▪Fall protection & Fall Arrest
