Job Description:

We have an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Assistant.The purpose of this role is to Operate and maintain lab analysis instruments, ensuring accurate and reliable oil sample analysis, while supporting all lab processes.

As ourĀ Laboratory Assistantof your responsibilities will include but not limited to:

  • Analyse Oil Samples: Accurately analyse oil samples using various equipment, ensuring each sample is processed according to its unique sequence number.
  • Sample Registration: Register and log all oil samples received from clients into the lab’s tracking system, ensuring proper documentation and traceability.
  • Data Entry and Recordkeeping: In the laboratory information management system (LIMS), maintain precise records of analysis results, including sample details, methods used, and calibration data.
  • High accuracy of analysis results.
  • Correctness and traceability of methods and records.
  • Compliance with documentation standards and audit readiness.
  • Calibrate Basic Analysis Instruments: Perform regular cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of oil analysis instruments according to the schedule or as needed, following manufacturer standards.
  • Instrument Record Maintenance: Document all maintenance and calibration activities, ensuring up-to-date records are accessible for audits and inspections.
  • High accuracy and reliability of instruments.
  • Reduction in the percentage of deviations.
  • Well-maintained calibration and maintenance logs.
  • Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality (SHEQ) Compliance
  • Environmental Impact Control: Minimize environmental impact by adhering to statutory requirements and company policies.
  • Safe Work Practices: Ensure all work follows SHEQ standards, maintaining a clean and hazard-free work environment through good housekeeping practices.
  • Incident Reporting and Response: Promptly report any environmental or safety incidents and ensure corrective actions are taken within the required timeframe.
  • Number of Safety, Health, and Environmental Process System (STEPS) initiatives implemented per month.
  • Zero or reduced environmental incident rate.
  • Completion of safety and health audits with corrective actions implemented within a month.

This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (E&M) department on a band 9/P5 level reporting to the Oil Lab Technologist

Qualifications:

  • Grade 12/N3 with Mathematics & Science
  • SA Drivers Licence

Technical Knowledge

  • 1-2 years of relevant operational experience in maintenance.
  • Knowledge of laboratory protocols.
  • Knowledge of STARLIMS Software, Spectrometer Instrument & Software, Particle Counter (Lazernet fines) & Software, FTIR & Software, PQ Instrument & Software and Viscometer & Software.
