Job Description
- Manage the planning, scheduling, and coordination of aircraft maintenance activities in accordance with approved maintenance programmes and operational requirements;
- Ensure accurate, complete, and timely maintenance work packs are prepared, reviewed, and issued;
- Oversee aircraft maintenance forecasting, check planning, and maintenance scheduling to maximise fleet availability and minimise downtime;
- Coordinate maintenance planning activities with Engineering, Heavy Maintenance, Line Maintenance, MCC, Flight Operations, and other operational stakeholders;
- Monitor planning activities to ensure maintenance milestones and departmental deadlines are achieved;
- Provide accurate planning information and reports to support operational decision-making and fleet availability;
- Manage Production planning activities and ensure milestones and requirements are met regarding Gantt planning and associated resources for planned maintenance visits;
- Implement and ensure MSG3 maintenance philosophy is utilized to leverage the best aircraft operational availability versus maintenance requirements;
- Manage the integrity, accuracy, and control of aircraft technical records and maintenance documentation;
- Ensure aircraft logbooks, component records, modification status, life-limited components, dent and buckle records, and maintenance history are accurately maintained;
- Oversee aircraft configuration control and ensure maintenance information is accurately captured within the maintenance management system;
- Ensure all maintenance documentation is correctly revised, controlled, archived, and readily accessible in accordance with regulatory requirements;
- Ensure maintenance planning systems accurately reflect aircraft maintenance status, configuration, component information, and maintenance schedules;
- Oversee the loading and maintenance of component information, flight data, defect information, and maintenance records within the MRO system;
- Participate in Aircraft Maintenance Programme (AMP) revisions and coordinate planning and records-controlled maintenance documentation updates where effected;
- Provide planning support during Aircraft on Ground (AOG) events and assist in resolving operational planning challenges;
- Support Maintenance Control Centre (MCC) activities relating to technical planning and maintenance execution;
- Ensure Planning and Records activities comply with SACAA regulations, approved maintenance programmes, organisational procedures, and controlled manuals;
- Ensure maintenance planning documentation, task cards, technical publications, and controlled documents remain current, accurate, and are implemented within required timeframes;
- Facilitate internal, customer, lessor, quality assurance, and regulatory audits relating to the Planning and Records function;
- Implement and monitor corrective actions arising from audits, inspections, and compliance reviews;
- Identify, assess, and mitigate operational and regulatory risks affecting maintenance planning, technical records, and aircraft configuration control;
- Ensure departmental compliance with Occupational Health and Safety requirements and promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement, and regulatory compliance;
- Lead, coach, and develop the team to achieve departmental objectives;
- Manage departmental performance, resource allocation, workload planning, and employee development;
- Identify training requirements and ensure personnel maintain the required competencies;
- Lead departmental improvement initiatives and planning-related projects to enhance operational efficiency;
- Ensure appropriate succession planning and workforce capability;
- Promote a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement;
- Develop and manage the departmental budget and monitor expenditure in line with approved financial objectives;
- Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports relating to maintenance planning, technical records, fleet status, reliability, and departmental activities;
- Ensure the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of planning, maintenance, and technical records data used for operational and regulatory reporting;
- Provide maintenance forecasts, planning schedules, and operational reports to support decision-making and fleet availability;
- Monitor maintenance planning trends, identify potential risks or issues, and escalate significant findings to management;
- Maintain reporting records and documentation in accordance with organisational and regulatory requirements;
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments, regulatory authorities, OEMs, lessors, service providers, and contracted maintenance organisations;
- Liaise with engineering and technical stakeholders regarding maintenance programme amendments, repairs, modifications, component interchangeability, and configuration changes;
- Understanding of SACAR Parts 121 and 145;
- Understanding of Aircraft Maintenance Planning Programmes (AMP);
- Understanding of Aircraft Maintenance Planning Documents (MPD);
- Reliability programmes Aircraft technical records and configuration management Maintenance Information Systems (e.g. AMOS);
- MSG 3 Maintenance Philosophy and the application thereof Aircraft maintenance documentation and airworthiness requirements.
Job Requirements
- Grade 12 or Equivalent (Essential);
- Degree or Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Aviation Management or a related technical field (Essential);
- Minimum of 10 years relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial role (Essential);
- Familiarity with Aircraft Maintenance tracking and control Programs (e.g TRAX) (Essential);
- Boeing 737-NG Type experience (Advantageous);
- Aviation maintenance planning concepts and philosophies for a large airline (Advantageous);
- Proficient in the use of MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint);
- The use of modern digital platforms and Al-enabled productivity applications Strong communication skills. Excellent stakeholder engagement and influencing skills;
- Data-driven decision-making;
- Strong interpersonal skills;
- People management skills.
