Department Description

The Wits School of Public Health (Wits SPH) is one of the largest Schools of Public Health in South Africa, with an international reputation for its teaching programmes, conducting high quality and relevant research, community outreach and policy engagement activities. The school also provides research support to Faculty of Health Sciences staff and post-graduate students.

The Centre for Health Policy (CHP) is a South African health systems and policy research unit based in the School of Public Health at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. CHP employs a multi-disciplinary group of public health and social scientists and offers a dynamic environment in which to conduct cutting-edge health systems and policy research. CHP has an established national and international reputation, and our success is built on innovation and diversity.

Job Description

CHP would like to offer a 2-year contract to an eager, dynamic and hard-working person. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop competencies in a variety of administrative and financial areas and develop a range of skills for use in their future career. Induction will be provided as well as essential training on the Wits Software system (ORACLE I-Proc & Project Modules).

Duties:

  • Assisting the administrative and finance team with a variety of financial and administrative tasks
  • Procurement
  • Input of publications information on the Wits publication site
  • Website maintenance
  • Preparing meeting rooms with refreshments and equipment
  • Managing grocery and stationery supplies
  • Deliveries and collections
  • Photocopying & filing
  • Maintaining equipment and asset registers
  • Data capturing
  • Preparation of payment requests, payroll claims and internal requisitions
  • Student administration

Requirements, work experience and qualifications:

  • Matric certificate
  • Preferably studying towards their post-school qualification, (preferable in administration or finance)
  • Basic computer skills
  • A driver’s license with at least 3 years driving experience
  • Some work experience will be an added advantage
