The Department of Defence (DOD) has announced multiple vacancies across South Africa for qualified candidates seeking government employment. The available positions include Administration Clerks and Provisioning Administration Clerks, based in various units nationwide.

Available Vacancies

The DOD is recruiting for the following positions:

  • Administration Clerk: Supervisor (X3 Posts)
  • Provisioning Administration Clerk: Supervisor (X6 Posts)
  • Provisioning Administration Clerk: Production (X61 Posts)
  • Administration Clerk: Production (X35 Posts)

These posts are available at several Defence units, including:

  • 10 Air Depot, Thaba Tshwane, Pretoria
  • 93 Ammunition Depot, Jan Kempdorp
  • Naval Stores Depot, Wingfield, Cape Town
  • DOD Logistics Support Formation HQ, Lyttelton
  • DOD Main Ordnance Sub Depot, Durban and Wallmannsthal
  • Works Maintenance Units in Gauteng, Western Cape, Northern Cape, and Eastern Cape
  • South African Forces Institute, Thaba Tshwane
  • Central Procurement Service Centre, Centurion
  • SA Naval Armament Depot, Simonโ€™s Town

Salary Range

The Department offers competitive government pay scales:

  • Level 05: R228,321 โ€“ R268,950 per annum
  • Level 07: R325,101 โ€“ R382,959 per annum

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for these roles, applicants must meet the following:

  • Grade 12 Certificate (NQF Level 4) or equivalent
  • Relevant experience (where applicable โ€“ some posts require up to 3 years in logistics, supply chain, or administrative work)
  • Strong computer literacy in MS Office packages
  • Sound communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently with reliability and professionalism
  • Knowledge of government regulations and administrative procedures

Additional qualifications or training in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Asset Management, or Logistics Administration will be advantageous.


Key Duties

Depending on the specific position, successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Providing comprehensive administrative and logistical support to the DOD units
  • Managing correspondence, registers, and documentation
  • Performing data capturing, filing, and record-keeping duties
  • Supporting procurement and provisioning functions
  • Preparing financial and stock reports
  • Coordinating meetings, compiling minutes, and ensuring compliance with administrative policies
  • Supervising subordinates where applicable
